Coke Really Does Taste Different In Bottles And Cans - Here's Why

Long Story Short

No, you're not crazy -- there is a slight different with how drink taste in bottles or cans. Although, it has nothing to do with the ingredients.

Long Story

It feels like common knowledge: drinks taste different in cans than in bottles. Whether that's your Coke or Pepsi, beer, Perrier -- whatever. But it's not because there's anything different in the actual liquid.

Insider interviewed a few experts and found what really makes drinks taste different. Apparently, it has to do with the containers themselves. When you take a sip from a can, you might be tasting can, rather than the drink. Hypothetically, if this is true then pouring a canned Sprite and a bottle Sprite in a glass would give off a fizzy product that tastes the same.

But that's not all.

There are also glass bottles, which -- let's be honest here -- are the best. The reason why they taste better is that glass can hold the bubbles in much better than plastic can. Glass bottles also might do a better job at preventing light from altering the flavor compounds.

In reality, though -- it's all pretty much the same and is just about preference. So next time your uncle says that definitively Coke is better in a can, tell him he's wrong. Then go back to arguing about politics.
