Gary Donald Fox Obituary, Death – Gary Donald Fox’s untimely death on November 14, 2023, at the age of 80, has profoundly affected those he touched and the places he lived in. With his beloved wife Lana, oldest son Michael, granddaughters Danielle, Alanna, and Madison, and sister Marilyn (Ron) Gibson, Gary has left behind a loving family, a legacy of kindness and generosity, and the sorrow of his loss. Gary was born on January 25, 1943, in Trail, BC, but he spent his childhood in Castlegar,
which set the stage for an extraordinary life of craftsmanship and adventure. Gary spent 29 years with Mack Bros. Logging before retiring; he started off as a welder but eventually became an expert heavy-duty technician. Gary was famously talented in building things out of wood, metal, and his imagination had no limits. His restored 1930 Model A truck, which he took great delight in, was a sight to behold as he cruised through Wells, Barkerville, and on rare occasions, Quesnel.
Gary’s passion for the great outdoors knew no bounds; he enjoyed snowmobile, dirt riding, mining, hiking, and fly fishing. His love for Barkerville’s past blossomed when he worked side by side with Lana; they were both recognized for their efforts in retracing the historic Goldrush Pack Trail from 1861. The world will miss Gary’s infectious energy, vivid personality, remarkable memory, and selfless devotion to helping others in need.
The Northern Lights Wildlife Society in Smithers, BC or the Quesnel SPCA would be great recipients of memorial contributions in his honor because of his deep and abiding love of animals. Gary Donald Fox changed people’s lives via his art and generosity; his legacy is one of exploration, imagination, and altruism. In honor of a life well-lived, his legacy will live on in the memories of those lucky enough to have known him.
